Summary
City staff reported that, following House Bill 2022, the primary election date moved to July 21; the city posted the call of election, updated the candidate packet and set the candidate filing deadline for March 23 and the primary voter registration deadline for June 22.
Casa Grande — City staff reported to the council that the city has posted the call of election following a state change to the primary election date under House Bill 2022.
Adrianna (city staff) said the call of election states the primary will be held on July 21 to nominate candidates for mayor and three council seats. She said notices were published in the Casa Grande Dispatch on Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 and that the city clerk’s office updated the candidate packet and posted election information on the city website and at City Hall.
Adrianna said moving the primary changed several deadlines: the nomination packet filing deadline is now March 23 by 5 p.m., and the voter registration deadline for the primary is June 22. She also noted that, under the city charter and ordinances, a candidate who receives a majority in the primary is declared elected and will not advance to the general election; the general election date remains Nov. 3 and would only be necessary in case of a runoff.
The report was provided for transparency and no council action was required. Adrianna offered to answer questions and affirmed that informational sessions and candidate packets are available for prospective candidates.
Where to get information: the city website and physical postings at City Hall contain the updated candidate packet and the official call of election materials.
