Creighton board adopts Black History Month resolution, adds local civil-rights pioneer

During discussion, board member Miss Gibson McLean asked that the resolution explicitly reference Dr. Morrison Warren — identified in the meeting as Phoenix's first Black city council member and an early pioneer of Head Start in Arizona — and other local ties to Creighton schools. The president accepted the amendment and the board approved the amended resolution by voice vote.
The president noted that resolutions express the board’s values but are not binding district policy. Members identified a list of additional historical leaders to consider for future inclusion and asked staff to circulate an amended resolution copy after the meeting.
"I just wanted to bring his name into the room," Miss Gibson McLean said referencing Dr. Warren’s local contributions and ties.
