Englewood Beach reopening phased; county sets June target for southern access, more work remains

Tommy Scott, community services director, updated the board on progress at Inglewood Beach Park and on broader park recovery work following storm damage.

Scott said crews completed the initial southern‑end reopening and that an updated Phase 2 will open the roundabout south area by June 23, pending weather and final contractor timelines. The plan adds ADA sidewalks, temporary portable restrooms, and the relocation of fencing to allow public access while the northern section is finished. Scott said the updated sequencing increases southern‑end parking by roughly 77 spaces and brings total available spaces (including nearby Chadwick) to about 153 for the southern complex; the northern section contains about 196 spaces.

Remaining items—permanent restroom building, lighting, boardwalk replacement and playground repairs—are not yet scheduled or funded. Scott said the county is coordinating with risk management and contractors to meet ADA requirements before opening and noted the contractor roster includes separate concrete/curb and asphalt vendors to sequence the work and open sections safely.

Commissioners requested site tours for damaged parks and a forensic design review for the Live Oak Point boardwalk, which failed extensively in the storms. Commissioner Doherty suggested a fall workshop after tours to prioritize heavy projects such as bayshore pier repairs and boardwalk replacement.

Next steps: staff will pursue the June‑23 target for Roundabout South, continue procurement and permitting for remaining elements, and schedule tours for the board to review Bayshore and Live Oak Point park damage and options.
