Charlotte County: Burnt Store plant CMAR contracted; DEP permit modification expected in October

Charlotte County Utilities told commissioners on June 19 that the construction manager-at-risk (CMAR) is under contract for the Burnt Store plant expansion and that staff expects to submit a DEP modification permit in October to complete design and obtain estimated construction costs.
Dave Watson, director of Charlotte County Utilities, said staff have been coordinating with the CMAR and regulatory agencies and plan to present a full update and timeline to the board on July 15. Watson also said the utility is operating at roughly 85–90% capacity currently and that connection fees continue to be collected while construction planning proceeds.
Watson said the county is also pursuing a package plant option as a near-term capacity tool. "Depending on the size, we're looking at probably about four months to have that from the time we execute the contract to have it on-site," Watson said, adding that initial package-plant increments could be about 50,000 gallons per day and expandable from there.
