Contractor says EB Frick Middle School construction is ahead of schedule

The EB Frick Middle School construction project is progressing, a contractor told the Lenoir County Board of Education at its Jan. 5 meeting.
A Metcon representative said masonry work is under way in the band, chorus and dining areas, that gym walls should be finished in about a week and that steel and precast roof planks were on site. "We've got about 20 wells left to dig," the presenter said when describing the ground-source mechanical system, adding that 187 geo wells have been drilled in total and crews are sequencing slab pours across the building's wings.
The presenter described a phased schedule: current pours for the 300–400 wings, a planned finish for the 600 wing and gym joists and precast delivery starting the next day. He said eight trucks of precast planks were scheduled and that a second mobilization for additional precast work is expected in early to mid-February.
Board members asked technical questions about the number of wells, steel mobilization and sequencing. The presenter responded with details about rigs, crews and the reasoning behind pouring gym slabs last to avoid trade conflicts.
The board did not take formal action on the project at the meeting. The construction update followed a superintendent report recognizing student scholarship semifinalists and a teacher selected as an NCAT beginning-teacher finalist.
