Trustees approve $5,000 grants to Rooted for Good and Project Hope, and move multiple budget items

At its Jan. 20 meeting, the DeKalb Township Board of Trustees approved several financial actions, including payment of routine bills, acceptance of treasurer reports and two $5,000 community grants.
Speaker 1 moved to approve the December audit report in the amount of $961,920.71 and January bills to pay totaling $141,328.62; the motion was moved and seconded and passed on a roll-call vote. "Can I get a motion to approve the December audit report in the amount of $961,920.71? And January bills to pay in the amount of $141,328.62," Speaker 1 asked before the board voted.
The board also received and approved the treasurer’s December budget reports, which Speaker 1 said had been updated to reflect revised budget line items.
On community funding, Speaker 1 presented COI funding recommendations: $5,000 each to Rooted for Good, to support hygiene items targeted at 12-to-18-year-olds, and to Project Hope (affiliated with New Hope Baptist Church) to help underwrite a summer camp component of its youth programming. "When they've made all their purchases, we want an itemized list of what they purchased, and what the cost of the items were," Speaker 1 said regarding Rooted for Good.
Speaker 6 moved and Speaker 4 seconded the grants; the board approved the motion by roll call. Speaker 1 noted both organizations had applied to other local funding sources as part of their funding strategy.
Trustees later approved the Dec. 9, 2025 minutes and scheduled the Committee on Youth for Feb. 10 and the next board meeting for Feb. 17. The chair said staff will call a special meeting if a contract requires execution before the next regular meeting.
