Township approves audit reports, bills and awards Peace Park contract; moves to executive session

The DeKalb Township Board of Trustees on Feb. 17 approved routine financial measures, accepted a construction contract award for Peace Park and recessed into executive session to discuss litigation.
The board voted to approve the January audit reports in the amount of $253,387 and the February bills to pay totaling $79,637.72; roll-call responses in the meeting record show trustees present voted in the affirmative and the motion passed. The board also voted to receive, file and approve the treasurer's January budget reports by roll-call vote.
On new business the board formally accepted the notice of award for Peace Park construction. The award was documented as being made to O'Brien Civil Works for a contract amount of $170,834.70; project funding will come from the Peace Park Fund (donations) and the Cemetery Capital Fund. A preconstruction meeting with the engineer and a planned April groundbreaking were announced.
The board discussed statutory timing for the annual town meeting and decided to keep the April meeting on April 21, 2026, after noting a scheduling conflict for April 15 (township lobby day). The minutes of the 01/20/2026 board meeting were also approved after minor formatting corrections. Finally, trustees moved and seconded a motion to recess the regular meeting and enter executive session to discuss litigation as permitted by 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(11).
