The city presented results from its 2025 employee survey, conducted by Polco, showing generally positive employee sentiment and specific areas for targeted action.
Public Affairs Director Keisha Shown said the survey drew a 37% response rate and compared the city’s results to national benchmarks. Highlights included: 92% of respondents felt positive about working for the city, 90% reported job satisfaction, 81% said the organization’s mission and vision made their job feel important, 87% said their values align with the city’s values, and 95% planned to be employed with the city a year from now. Keisha Shown noted supervisors scored particularly well on communication and trust metrics.
Areas for improvement identified in the survey included organizational openness to new ideas (53% positive in one item), confidence in elected officials (a decline though still similar to benchmarks), and compensation/employee appreciation items that trended downward from prior surveys. Department-specific improvements were noted in transit and development/building services after a recent reorganization.
Commissioners praised the work and asked staff to use survey results to craft action plans; staff said the community survey will be next year and the employee survey will repeat the following year.
