Senate honors Colorado groups: Kappa Alpha Psi and Ukraine Power recognized on floor

The Colorado Senate used moments of personal privilege on Feb. 20 to recognize two organizations with state commendations.

Senator Coleman read a formal tribute to Kappa Alpha Psi, highlighting the fraternity’s mentoring programs, scholarships and senior housing projects. "The Colorado State Senate extends sincere commendations to the Denver alumni chapter, Colorado Springs alumni chapter, Omicron Zeta chapter, Omicron Pi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated," the tribute stated, and senators applauded chapter members present on the floor.

Later, Senator Liston introduced board members and the founder of Ukraine Power, a Colorado Springs–based nonprofit that senators said has raised more than $500,000 to deliver generators, heaters and power banks to Ukrainians in need. Senator Liston and Senator Roberts praised the group’s humanitarian work and invited the founders and board to stand for recognition. "The Colorado State Senate is proud that Ukraine Power embodies Colorado's innovative drive and heartfelt humanity by turning donations into life saving relief," the Senate tribute said.

Both recognitions were delivered during personal-privilege remarks and received floor applause; the Ukraine Power board members were invited to visit the floor and were acknowledged by senators.
