At its January 2026 regular meeting at CF Patton Middle School, the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District board recognized student artists and athletes, accepted a retirement tribute and approved multiple policy and facilities items by unanimous voice votes.
Board President Dr. Baratta opened the meeting and turned the floor over to Superintendent Dr. Hoffman, who presented a series of recognitions including holiday card contest winners and the state-champion boys golf team. Principal Mr. Clark and Coach Jimmy O'Rourke introduced the team and coach O'Rourke listed the roster and noted the team will represent Pennsylvania at a national invitational in Pinehurst this summer.
The board moved through routine business and committee reports before voting on grouped consent and standalone items. The board approved bundled routine agenda items (3.1–3.5) and corrected the December 8 minutes to record Director Schartz as absent for that meeting. Director Schartz said the Act 1 index resolution and budget updates presented last week provide a clearer signal to the community about the district’s budget discipline.
On policy, the board voted to adopt a set of discrimination, harassment and bullying reporting policies and administrative guidelines and then adopted a revised gifts policy (Policy 3.22) after discussion about aligning policy language with common practice for nominal tokens of appreciation from families. "I think the new policy is both what we should do and what actually is happening in the district," a director said during the discussion.
Facilities approvals included multiple construction bids and cost proposals: HVAC renovations at Unionville Elementary (construction bids listed totaling about $2,313,500 with authorization to apply for a public school facility improvement grant); a $293,000 proposal to Trium Group for HVAC building management system controls; approval of a rooftop solar array construction bid for Terasol (listed in the agenda as $935,000.870); construction bids for outdoor learning classrooms at two elementary schools (listed around $699,494); and a $30,992 audiovisual upgrade for another elementary gym. Vice Chair Everett introduced the facilities slate and each item passed on voice vote.
The board approved the Act 1 index resolution (agenda item 7.1), the personnel slate (agenda items 8.1–8.11), the 2026 district calendar (182 instructional days) and several student-activities items including an athletic facilities-use contract, an overnight fishing club trip to Cape Henlopen State Park and a Patton Middle School travel-club trip to Costa Rica in June 2027. "All those in favor..." prompts were followed by unanimous "Aye" responses recorded by the chair.
The meeting concluded with committee reports, including curriculum updates and technology notes; Chair Baratta reminded the public that the next meeting is a February work session on Feb. 9 in the district office.
