The Kennett Consolidated School District board voted Jan. 12 to hire CHA Consulting Inc. (formerly Dewey Engineering) as construction manager for renovations to the Kennett High School cafeteria and library/media center.
District staff described the contract as a roughly 29‑month agreement valued at $398,000. CHA's responsibilities include design review and approvals, bidding and procurement, and on-site superintendent and engineering support (civil, structural and mechanical) during construction. The administration said the firm is already serving on site for New Garden and Greenwood projects and brings experienced on-site supervision.
Administrators said the project funds will come from the district's capital reserve account rather than the general operating budget. Board members discussed timing for bidding (about one year out) and how the firm had supported past projects; questions about where students would be located during construction were raised as construction moves into later phases.
The board approved the agreement by voice vote. The administration indicated value-engineering efforts will be used to offset cost increases and that more detailed scheduling and procurement steps will follow.
