Hillsborough County meeting roundup: HUD plan, community grants and appointments approved

Among the ceremonial items, the board declared August 2025 Black Business Month and commended the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office for receiving the 2025 Governor’s Sterling Award. The board then approved the consent agenda and moved through community grants and appointments.
Key actions at the meeting included:
- Plan Year '25 HUD annual action plan: Assistant county administrator Cheryl Howell presented the plan for submittal to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Staff reported an estimated fiscal impact of $10,911,546 with plan-year budget lines shown during the hearing; the board adopted the plan 7–0.
- Community grants and agreements: The board approved up to $21,000 for New Life Village Inc. to install a sunshade over a splash pad (item B2), passing 6–1 with Commissioner Wall recorded as voting no, and approved up to $80,000 to the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida for camp road milling and resurfacing (item B3), 7–0.
- Appointments: The board confirmed applicants to the Cultural Asset Commission and the Health Care Advisory Board; motions to confirm carried 7–0.
- Alliance for Global Security (F3): After proponents described the nonprofit’s planned forum and mission to advance local resilience and education, the board adopted a resolution supporting the organization’s homeland-security education efforts, 7–0.
