Board approves historic‑preservation challenge grants, pulls one award for due diligence

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 1 approved awards from its Historic Preservation Challenge Grant program but removed one recommendation for further due diligence.
Ron Barton, presenting Item B1, said the evaluation committee recommended 16 awards but staff asked that Turbo Dog Holdings LLC be removed from the list for additional review. As a result, Barton said, the number of awardees approved dropped from 16 to 15 and the aggregate award amount was revised from $1,390,936 to $1,290,937.
Barton also told the board the package includes three resolutions required under the county’s capital‑funding for outside‑agency policy for any award over $100,000, and asked the board to authorize the county administrator or designee to execute grant agreements using the attached form.
Commissioner Gwen Myers moved to approve the item with the changes; the motion was seconded and approved 7‑0.
What changed: Turbo Dog Holdings LLC was removed from the award recommendations pending further due diligence. The remainder of the recommended awards and the modified aggregate total were approved, and staff was authorized to execute grant agreements for the 15 awardees.
Next steps: County staff will complete grant agreements for the approved awardees and proceed with additional due diligence on the pulled application.
