Planning commission finds Temple Terrace sign ordinance amendment consistent; vote unanimous

The Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission on Feb. 9 voted unanimously to find a Temple Terrace Land Development Code text amendment (Section 12-984) consistent with the Temple Terrace comprehensive plan.

Temple Terrace senior planner Alyssa Livingstone told the commission the amendment would allow two wall signs on corner lots provided each sign is located on a different street-facing façade and the signs meet conditions set out in a new footnote. Planning commission staff reviewed the proposed changes and recommended a finding of consistency with the comprehensive plan, citing Land Use Objective 8.5 and related policies that address downtown design, signage, and site controls.

There was no public comment on the item. Commissioner Linkus moved to find the amendment consistent; another commissioner seconded. The commission signaled unanimous support and the motion carried.

The clerk recorded the vote as unanimous; the approved consistency finding advances the amendment back to Temple Terrace for its next local action. Staff projected the change would address a regulatory limitation that currently restricts many corner buildings to a single wall sign despite multiple street frontages.

The commission recorded no amendments to the text at this meeting. The item will follow Temple Terrace's local processes for ordinance adoption and any subsequent implementation steps.
