Council Advances Police‑Facility Bond and Several Zoning Ordinances

The Rexburg City Council moved several ordinances forward during its Feb. 18 meeting. On second reading the council considered Ordinance 13‑43 to place a Rexburg Police Facility bond question on the May ballot; no substantive public opposition was recorded at second read and the council voted to consider the second reading.
The council also held third readings on two zone changes: Ordinance 13‑42 (rezoning near 801 South 12th West from rural residential 1 to a mix including low‑ and medium‑density residential and regional business center) and Ordinance 13‑41 (rezoning near 301 South 12th West from low density residential to low density residential 2). Motions to consider the third readings were seconded and passed on voice votes.
Earlier, the council had taken a first reading on an annexation and rezoning request for property adjacent to the North Rexburg exit and north of Walmart (planner noted roughly 40 acres on parcel viewer); Planning & Zoning had recommended approval by unanimous vote. Council approved the first reading of Ordinance 13‑44 as presented. The council will schedule subsequent readings and any required notice periods as ordinances proceed through required readings.
The actions move the items forward in the formal ordinance process; staff will return with final redline language, map exhibits and any necessary procedural findings before final adoption.
