Public works director Keith Davidson said the sewer project extends the sanitary system from the area near the temple southward and includes deep sections and lift‑station work; the department set a 200‑day contract time but cautioned groundwater and other conditions could carry work into 2027. Finance staff said the city budgeted roughly $4.7 million this fiscal year and will carry the project forward into the capital improvement plan; staff also said urban renewal will fund about 35% of the sewer project cost.
Davidson said Viking Painting was the low bidder for the elevated tank and that the city will use a simplified design reading "Rexburg" with white colors, rather than the older city seal. Council members approved both awards by motion and voice vote.
Next steps include finalizing contract documents, issuing notices to proceed and coordinating construction timing to minimize community disruption. The city will publish final contract documents and a project timeline once those details are complete.
