Beyond the tablings and the two headline resolutions, the Feb. 18 special meeting included a number of administrative approvals and one contract cancellation.
The commission authorized cancellation of the Otis elevator maintenance contract (Resolution 2026011) after Public Works Director Jeff Odomes explained issues with the current contractor and the town’s planned replacement elevator system.
The commission also approved an agreement with the Broward County Supervisor of Elections so a tax-abatement ordinance can be included on the 2026 general-election referendum (Resolution 2026012). A voluntary townwide wellness program and procurement of a commercial-grade scale were approved by Resolution 2026013.
The commission approved transmittal of the capital improvement element (Ordinance 2026005) to the Florida Department of Commerce; the finance director said the town has roughly $36 million in projects over the next five years. Ordinance 2026006 (amending chapter 2 to establish departments and to codify HR reporting to the commission) passed first reading and will return for a second reading and public hearing.
A proposed ordinance to move regular commission meetings from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Ordinance 2026004) failed to proceed for lack of a motion at first reading after commissioners debated public participation concerns.
Other routine items approved included the IT GIS renewal (Item 9.2) and a five-year vehicle maintenance plan for recently purchased police vehicles (Item 9.3). The meeting closed with scheduling of special meetings and a community food giveaway announced for Feb. 28.
