Tucker also presented a proposal to install alarm and access systems in all district buildings except the high school (which already has installations) at a total project cost of $283,617. Doctor Bliss has applied for a Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) school‑safety grant to cover 55% of the cost; Tucker said the hardware cost is $178,000 and the remaining roughly $105,000 covers five‑year licenses. The board approved the proposal by motion.
A Smith Middle School ballistic‑glass communicator insertion (to improve secretary‑to‑visitor audio) was presented at a cost of $3,950, increasing the contract total to $18,345; the board approved the change order.
By contrast, a separate Smith Middle School dust‑collector change order (220 feet of conduit/grounding, $2,988.51, contract cumulative $153,096.51) prompted questions about a 10% markup on materials and labor. Trustees requested an itemized breakdown and voted to table the change order for clarification.
