Iowa Senate greets CTE students and FBLA officers, then adjourns until Feb. 23

The Iowa Senate convened for a brief session that opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, included several introductions of visiting career and technical education students and advisors, and ended when Senator Klimesh moved to adjourn until Monday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m.

The prayer was offered by the senator from Adams, who asked for guidance and safety for those "who are dealing things we know nothing about," and closed "In Jesus' name we pray, amen." After the prayer the chamber recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Senator Zimmer (senator from Clinton) introduced visitors from DeWitt Community School District and North Scott Community School District and identified advisors Jacob Hunter (North Scott FFA advisor), Amy Grants (Central DeWitt FFA advisor), and Rebecca Barnes (FCCLA advisor), asking colleagues to "please give them a warm welcome." Later, Senator McClintock (senator from Linn) introduced members of the Iowa Future Business Leaders of America and named the 2026 Iowa FBLA Collegiate State Officer Team, including Joyanna (clerk; Vice President of Communication), Nathan Nivenhoeven (state president), Jonathan Nivenhoeven (national president and state vice president), and Matthew Van Hefty (vice president of financial development). Senator Zimmer also noted the Northeast Community School District FFA chapter had entered the gallery from Eastern Iowa and asked senators to welcome them.

Senator Weiner (senator from Johnson) announced that Democrats would caucus in Room 24. The session concluded after Senator Klimesh (senator from Winneshiek) moved that the Senate adjourn until Monday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m.; members vocalized "aye," the chair declared the motion carried, and the Senate was adjourned until that date. No formal roll-call vote with named tallies was recorded in the transcript.

The Senate is scheduled to reconvene on the adjourned date unless otherwise posted by the chamber.
