Clay County recognizes school resource deputy for intervening in student crisis

Commissioner Withington introduced an honorary resolution (agenda item 2026-46) recognizing Deputy Chase Blatt for responding to a student who expressed intent to harm themselves, removing the student to a secure area and coordinating with school counselors. The resolution thanked Deputy Blatt and school resource deputies generally for their role in mentoring and protecting students.
Sheriff Will Aiken attended and praised the school resource deputies’ work, saying such interventions exemplify the partnership between deputies and schools and can prevent tragic outcomes. Deputy Blatt declined further comment when offered the opportunity to speak.
