South Madison school board honors students, community partners and staff

The South Madison Community School Corporation School Board recognized a string of student and community achievements at its regular meeting. Mister Rose opened the character-council awards and introduced honorees across the pillars of citizenship, caring, respect, responsibility and fairness.

Mister Rose called up Mamie Trout and said, "Mamie has been involved in multiple organizations, clubs, and community organizations throughout her PHHS career," citing her leadership roles and classroom integrity. Presenters also honored Mary Canady for caring, Talon Foster for respect, Mariah Kupferrer for responsibility and Dane for citizenship. Several teachers and staff provided nomination remarks describing each student’s classroom contributions and leadership roles.

The board also recognized community support: Bobby Steele of E & B Paving received the outstanding community award for sustained assistance to the construction and engineering department, including donations and hands-on support for student programming. "The school is incredibly grateful for his time, expertise, and generosity," the presenter said.

Staff member Lauren Spencer, identified as the health assistant at Pendleton Heights High School, received an Above and Beyond award for her cross‑functional support of office operations and student services. Board members encouraged attendees to take photos and join the brief recess that followed the recognitions.

The recognitions closed the meeting’s spotlight portion and preceded the academic presentation and routine business items that followed.
