The O'Fallon Historic Preservation Commission voted Feb. 3 to forward nominations for 411 Woodlawn and 419 Woodlawn to the City Council for formal consideration as locally designated historic properties.
The commission approved resolutions to move both nominations to the council agenda after short motions and voice votes. Members discussed the next steps with staff: if the commission approves the resolution tonight, staff will try to place the nomination on the next council workshop agenda, and any designation ultimately requires two council readings to become an ordinance.
Commissioners agreed that a short presentation at the council workshop may be the best venue. The commission also discussed inviting homeowners to attend the council workshop or meeting to answer any questions. Staff said the council process will follow the city’s normal ordinance schedule; the commission’s role is to forward the nominations with their recommendations.
No public hearing or final council decision occurred during the Feb. 3 meeting; the council will make the final determination after the statutory ordinance readings. The commission did not record a roll-call vote tally in the meeting minutes beyond the voice approval of the motions.
