Finance committee recommends council accept $3.5 million in state funds for joint emergency operations facility

Fire Chief Mike Snyder presented the items, saying the first appropriation of $1,500,000 and the second of $2,000,000 are intended "for planning, design, and construction of an of the emergency joint operations center." He thanked the mayor and council for work with the legislature to secure the funding.
After presentation, committee members asked no substantive questions. A motion to recommend TMP 3531 — the $1.5 million agreement — carried on recorded aye votes; the committee then moved and voted to recommend TMP 3532, the $2 million agreement, also by recorded aye votes. The committee's recommendation sends both ordinances to the full council for final action.
If council approves both ordinances, the combined funding would be allocated to the joint operations center project. Staff did not provide a detailed construction timeline or firm cost schedule during the committee meeting; committee members asked staff to monitor construction costs and report back as procurement and project planning advance.
The committee handled the two ordinances as separate items and recommended both for council approval at the next available council meeting.
