Public Works Committee forwards multiple airport, water and street items to full council
Summary
At its Dec. 8 meeting the Lee's Summit Public Works Committee recommended forwarding several consent and contract items — including two airport SASO agreements, a cathodic protection bid award, two construction change orders and a MoDOT streetlight maintenance agreement — to full council for approval.
The City of Lee's Summit Public Works Committee on Dec. 8 recommended that the full City Council approve a batch of consent items and contract actions covering airport services, water system work and street projects.
The committee voted unanimously to forward two Specialized Aviation Service Organization (SASO) agreements to council: one with Barton Aviation LLC and one with Atlas Aero LLC to provide aircraft washing and detailing at the Kansas City Lee's Summit Regional Airport. Joel Arrington, the airport manager, said both businesses are local operations that began small and expanded to serve aircraft owners at Lee's Summit and elsewhere in the metro area.
Also recommended for council approval were: the apparent low bid award for the FY25 cathodic protection program (staff recommended Cantex Industries Inc), change order No. 8 for the 3rd Street improvements (Miles Excavating Inc) adding two days and $16,392.81 to the contract to adjust quantities and cover additional field work, and change order No. 6 to close out the FY23 water main rehabilitation project (Weideman Inc) with an increase the committee recorded in staff materials. Susan Berry, city traffic engineer, also presented an intergovernmental agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MoDOT) for maintenance of streetlights along North Outer Road/Blue Parkway; the committee recommended that item to council as well.
All motions were moved, seconded and approved by roll call in committee. These are recommendations to council; full council action is required for final approval.
What comes next: the items will appear on a future City Council agenda for final consideration. Committee members and staff noted routine opportunities for public comment when council reviews these items.
