Another council member noted the highest prior written quote was $18,000 and questioned the higher cap; supporters argued the larger cap would cover background and additional services if needed. The council approved the amended motion by voice vote, recorded as passing 6 to 0.
Council directed the budget and finance committee to set final costs within the authorized threshold and noted that the consultant's work would include candidate background processes and a full review as appropriate.
