The Emmaus Borough Council approved a motion to hire Mark Simpkins as a full-time public works employee, passing the measure by voice vote recorded as 6 to 0.
"The only thing I have for official action tonight is to make a motion to hire Mark Simpkins as a full time public works employee," Public Works Committee Chairman Balliet said, noting Simpkins had been interviewed at the committee's prior session. Council members said background checks had been completed or would be completed and that Simpkins' start date depends on his status and discussions with his current employer.
The motion was seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote. Council did not specify an exact start date; council and staff said any hiring remains contingent on usual background or probationary processes.
