Board of Elections details early‑voting schedule, registration deadlines and ballot rules ahead of March primary

Carly Beauregard, representing the Gates County Board of Elections, briefed the commissioners on upcoming election dates, voter registration deadlines and procedures for early and absentee voting ahead of the March primary.
“Voter registration deadline was 02/06/2026 at 5PM,” Beauregard said. She reviewed early voting windows and hours for the county, including Thursday–Friday, Feb. 12–13; Monday–Friday, Feb. 16–20 and Feb. 23–27 (8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day); and the single Saturday early voting day on Feb. 28 (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The primary election day was listed as March 3 with polling hours beginning early and running through the evening.
Beauregard explained rules for unaffiliated voters and sample ballots, the absentee‑ballot mailings (which began Jan. 12) and the absentee‑request deadline of Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. She also described the statewide voter registration repair project and cautioned voters who receive assistance forms that their registration remains valid.
“North Carolina law prohibits photographing or videotaping voted ballots,” Beauregard reminded the board, noting that phones and cameras are not allowed for ballot photos and that voters who need a photo ID can obtain one from county election offices during early voting.
The board asked a few operational questions about machine security and the election office said the county secures machines in a locked room, is conducting logic and accuracy testing, and is coordinating with IT and the fire marshal for access and security improvements.
The presentation closed with thanks to the county IT and buildings staff for support during early‑voting preparations. Commissioners and staff noted a public town hall on Article 46 sales tax referendum information set for the coming Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the high school performing arts center.
