He reviewed last summer’s non-congregate feeding allowances, described moving a planned site from one park to another to account for participation patterns, and said the district may adjust summer schedules (for example, serving multiple days’ meals in a single visit to sparser rural locations) to increase reach. He said the summer meal program is federally funded on a reimbursement basis and that sites qualify based on poverty metrics and school-boundary data.
Board members asked about participation patterns and qualification rules for sites; McMurphy said qualifying relies on federal guidelines tied to poverty indicators and that site-level participation can vary widely by location. The board asked staff to provide follow-up on the mechanics of site qualification and whether multi-day distributions could be piloted in low-participation areas.
No changes to funding or program rules were decided at the meeting.
