Montgomery Township supervisors adopt resolutions, ratify police entry-system purchase and approve salt contract

The Montgomery Township Board of Supervisors on Oct. 13 approved a slate of routine actions, including a resolution recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month, support for Fire Prevention Week, the ratification of an emergency police access-control purchase, and authorization to participate in a cooperative rock salt contract.

Resolution 2025-518: The board adopted Resolution 2025-518 recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month after staff (Candace) summarized the national campaign and the 2025 theme. A supervisor moved to adopt the resolution, a second was recorded, and the board voted in favor.

Fire Prevention Week: Chief Bill Wigman presented the township's Fire Prevention Week activities, highlighting this year's theme on lithium-ion battery safety. "This year's theme for Fire Prevention Week is charge into fire safety, lithium ion batteries in your home," Wigman said, and described outreach events, recent incidents involving batteries, and the township's efforts to ensure EV charging stations and energy storage systems are entered into the computer-aided dispatch system so firefighters are aware of those devices when responding.

Police access-control system ratified: Chief Peoples reported a catastrophic failure of the police department's access-control entry system on Sept. 24, 2025. Staff obtained a quote from CM3 Building Solution under CoStar's cooperative purchasing program dated Sept. 26, 2025, for $15,500. The board voted to ratify the purchase and installation to restore secure access while staff budgets for longer-term supplements.

Salt contract participation: The board authorized the township's participation in the Montgomery County Consortium cooperative rock salt contract administered by the Borough of Hatfield. The consortium awarded Morton Salt Incorporated the contract at $63.61 per ton delivered for the 2025–26 winter season; staff said the cost is covered by the highway aid budget (state liquid fuels funds) and that the township typically plans for roughly +/- 2,000 tons but is not locked into a fixed take quantity.

Sale of surplus equipment: The board authorized using Munisibid to sell listed surplus municipal equipment online; Munisibid charges a 10% consignment fee to buyers, funds received will be placed in capital reserves, and staff said minimum bids will be established and returned to the board for approval prior to awards, anticipated in January.

Act 205 pension state aid: Blaine Bergey presented the 2025 state aid allocation for the General Municipal Pension System totaling $692,122 (a 12.5% increase from 2024). The board approved the recommended distribution: $397,001.19 to the police pension plan and $295,002.82 to the nonuniform employee pension plan.
