Mid Valley Disposal representatives told the Los Banos City Council that their 2025 outreach and operational reviews showed meaningful improvements in organics contamination and overall community engagement.
Recycling program specialist Marissa Corlejo reported route-audit results of 16% contamination for recycling (out of 648 carts) and about 2% contamination for organics (out of 634 carts), noting common contaminants are single-use plastic bags, food scraps and cardboard placed in the wrong containers. Operations manager Rick Rai and route supervisor Federico Villagomez described community cleanup-event totals: approximately 268,000 pounds of trash, 13,160 pounds of organics, 2,700 pounds of e-waste, about 85,000 pounds of metal and 512 tires collected across four city events.
Mid Valley recognized Italia Coffee and Bistro for implementing a three-stream collection system aligned with SB 1383 requirements and for strong on-site separation practices. Council members asked about logistics for free curbside pickups (four free pickups per year, up to six items per pickup) and scheduling; Mid Valley staff said residents contact the company to schedule a pickup and that additional paid services are available.
The council thanked Mid Valley for the presentation; no formal council action was taken.
