Board previews AI policy; district endorses Magic School platform to protect student data

"This is the reason we're doing that as a policy — it safeguards any information that's put in there whereas chat GPT, Gemini and those others cannot assure us of that protection," a staff presenter said as board members asked whether the policy should be a formal board policy rather than only a practice. The board agreed to include the AI policy on the consent agenda at a future meeting.
Principals who presented earlier (Meadowridge, Timber Ridge, Memorial) described how cameras, transcript capture and the Magic School platform are used to speed feedback to teachers and anchor coaching conversations with verbatim classroom excerpts. Meadowridge principal Chris Sullivan said that teachers have embraced optional classroom recording for quick, focused feedback and that tools help principals provide feedback within a day rather than weeks.
Next steps: policy language will go to the consent agenda for formal first/second readings and the district will continue controlled roll-out of approved AI tools with training and privacy safeguards in place.
