Takoma Park resident urges council to help her son after state services cut off

Mary Michui, a Takoma Park resident, told the council she has "fought with" the Developmental Disabilities Administration for 20 years seeking help for her son and said she had not received responsive assistance. "They don't return my calls," she said, and described being shifted to the lowest level of crisis prevention services with severely reduced chances of getting help.
Michui said her son's SNAP benefits and Medicaid are ending "at the end of this month," and asked the council to "have the guts" to intercede with state officials. She also thanked Sergeant Wolf of the Takoma Park Police Department for showing "empathy" in a parents-of-special-needs meeting.
Mayor Searcy and council members acknowledged Michui's comments and offered to help connect her with state disability officials and county resources; Council member Hansack and others said staff would assist in identifying additional resources and contacts.
The council did not take immediate formal action but the mayor offered to follow up directly and staff invited Michui to share contact information so they could coordinate outreach to state agencies and local partners.
