Township adopts amendment to shift sewer-rate approvals to municipal sewer authority

The Montgomery Township Board of Supervisors on Jan. 26 adopted an amendment to the township code that changes how sewer rental charges will be updated going forward.
At the January 5 public meeting the Municipal Sewer Authority’s executive director requested authority to move rates to an industry-standard model so future increases would be approved by the authority via resolution rather than by township ordinance. Township staff confirmed the proposed amendment was properly advertised by the solicitor’s office and recommended adoption.
At the meeting the board moved to adopt ordinance number 26-355, amending the township code provision related to sewer rental charges. The board voted in favor and the motion carried. Township staff said they will notify the Municipal Sewer Authority and its solicitor of the ordinance change.
