Montgomery Township authorizes advertisement of revised 2026 budget and 1-mill fire tax ordinance

Montgomery Township’s Board of Supervisors on Jan. 26 authorized advertisement of a revised 2026 budget and an amendment to the township’s fire-services tax ordinance.
Township staff said the revision reallocates a 1-mill increase so that 0.11 mill would go to the general fund, 0.44 mill to the fire fund and 0.45 mill to the capital reserve fund. The amendment to the fire tax ordinance would set a dedicated 1.00 mill for fire services. Staff estimated that 1 mill would generate about $2,015,000 in real estate tax revenue.
Manager Carolyn McCreery and Finance Director Blaine Bergey reviewed changes to beginning fund balances and footnotes and noted the township’s assessed valuation changed slightly after a county report. Bergey said the township will post the revised budget for public inspection before a planned adoption at the Feb. 9 public meeting, which staff said would satisfy the February 15 deadline for reopening a budget.
The board voted to authorize advertisement for public inspection. No public comment was offered at the meeting. The next formal step is the Feb. 9 meeting when the board may adopt the revised budget and the amended fire tax ordinance after any public comment.
