Township detective invited to FBI cyber task force; board approves pursuing MOU

Bloom said a resident’s cryptocurrency account compromise required coordination with multiple agencies and resulted in the arrest of a suspect overseas.
Bloom told the board that roughly half of the township’s investigations involve cyber elements and that online fraud investigations are increasing. He described benefits of FBI task‑force participation, including access to training, equipment and federal investigative resources that could enhance local investigations and victim restitution.
Supervisors discussed how collateral task‑force assignments work and confirmed that the detective would remain a township employee while participating; federal clearance and an appointment process would follow. The board voted to proceed with consideration of a draft memorandum of understanding between the FBI and the township so the detective could join the task force if cleared.
Board members praised the detective’s work and said the arrangement offered a net benefit to township residents through improved capabilities and access to federal resources. The motion to proceed with the MOU was approved by voice vote.
