Environmental Commission presents 2025 report and seeks $10,000 support for ERI

Morgan said the EC is a volunteer body of 14 members that conducted site reviews, hosted a well-attended sustainable landscaping event, produced a regular newsletter and worked on Sustainable Jersey recertification. He told the committee the EC had early discussions with council liaisons and asked for clearer township priorities so the commission could act as an extension of municipal efforts.
On the ERI request, Morgan said the commission is seeking support for a $10,000 grant to compile maps and data on wetlands, forests, soils and wildlife habitats that would be used in updating the township master plan. Committee members praised the EC's work and the mayor said the report would be posted on the township website after being received for the record.
Why it matters: An ERI is a technical resource used in land-use planning, conservation decisions and master-plan updates. Officials said improved environmental data could shape future ordinances and preservation efforts.
