Supervisors approve Hometown Christmas road closures for Dec. 7 tree lighting

The Harris Township Board of Supervisors voted on Oct. 14 to approve temporary street closures for the Bolesburg Hometown Christmas event scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7.
Representatives Annette Yorks and Robin Brousse described plans for carriage rides from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., a live reindeer exhibit in the township parking lot and a Santa mailbox on the diamond. The committee asked for specified road closures for the tree lighting.
Supervisor Frank moved to close Main Street (from the eastern end of the Diamond to Tennis Alley) and Church Street (from Rocky Alley to Chambers Alley) on Dec. 7 from 3:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., and to approve use of the Bolesburg fireplace for traffic control during the event. The motion was seconded and approved by voice.
"It's always amazing the number of people that come down to the tree lighting," a supervisor said after the vote. Organizers said they had secured a recent $3,500 grant to offset costs and that they are conserving and reusing decorations to reduce expenses.
The board recorded the voice vote as an affirmative approval and did not attach additional conditions beyond the event plan and required traffic-control coordination with township staff.
