Library reports new book return and HVAC funding; fire company documents call increase and thanks residents for clearing hydrants

Library: Harmish Bower, the township representative to the SCLO Library board, reported that a newly installed book‑return in front of the municipal building collected "about 30 books" in its first two weeks. Bower thanked Mark, Lisa (library director) and Hannah (office manager) for coordinating the installation and recounted the library’s successful fall fundraising drive (more than $100,000 raised) that supports programming and capital needs. He said an HVAC replacement project for 2025 is fully funded and a roof replacement is planned pending a Hamer Foundation grant.
Fire service: Veil Wyndham, fire chief, introduced the department roster and distributed last year's report. He told supervisors that call volume in Harris Township increased significantly — "we increased by 67 calls in in Harris Township alone" — with rises across automatic alarms, chief calls and crashes. Wyndham thanked residents and homeowners associations who cleared hydrants after the storm, noting that mutual aid calls declined while local calls rose.
Other infrastructure: Supervisors discussed the county’s recent allocation toward radio upgrades (a roughly $1 million program noted by a supervisor); the chief said the county/federal funding covers a portion of the needed upgrades but that the township remains eligible to pursue hotel‑tax or grant support if available. Staff also briefed on planned roof quotes for municipal buildings and suggested bundling repairs. The manager said staff will pursue quotes for asphalt and metal roofs, with potential follow‑up on solar evaluation at a later date.
Speed and broadband: Staff updated supervisors on a township speed detector relocated to capture vehicles going up Academy Street and said a memo of collected speed data will be prepared for residents. On broadband, staff said fiber sign‑up mailings have gone out and that deployment is focused on denser suburban areas with future underground expansion planned.
No formal board action was taken on these reports; supervisors encouraged follow‑up memos and further cost estimates where applicable.
