Navajo County honors two long-serving employees; board appoints Leah Thomas as clerk

Jeff told the board he appreciated the county’s collaborative environment and the opportunity to work across departments.
Melissa Buckley announced her retirement after serving 17 years as clerk of the board and recommended Deputy Clerk Leah Thomas as her successor. Melissa and others described her multi-department county career (including work in the assessor, clerk of superior court and public health offices) and presented gifts. Leah Thomas thanked Melissa for mentoring her and expressed appreciation to the board for the appointment.
The board moved to appoint Leah Thomas as clerk of the board. Multiple supervisors seconded the motion; the board voted in favor and the chair declared the appointment approved.
The meeting included a small reception in the Blue Mesa Conference Room for attendees after adjournment.
