Navajo County board approves materials contract for 2-mile road segment serving Navajo Nation route

The Navajo County Board of Supervisors voted to award a materials-only contract for aggregate base material to improve about 2 miles of Navajo Nation Route N 9009806 in District 2.

Manny, a public works staff member, told the board the procurement was split out as a materials-only contract because the estimated material cost exceeded $100,000. He said the county advertised the materials-only solicitation, opened bids on Nov. 13, and received two bids. Manny said Brimhall was the apparent low bidder and staff recommended awarding the contract to that bidder; the Navajo Division of Transportation will perform placement of the material on the route.

A supervisor who spoke in support noted the project began under a predecessor in 2018 and emphasized benefits for high-risk residents and students who use the road to reach Holbrook Unified School District and Delcon Community School. The supervisor moved to approve the contract; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
