Towamencin board approves engineering grant applications, sewer grant proposal and a road-project change order

At its March 12 meeting the Towamencin Township Board of Supervisors approved several staff-recommended proposals and a contractor change order.
The board approved a township-engineer proposal to prepare two grant applications for pickleball courts at Butch Clemens Park: a DCNR Community Conservation Partnership Program request for $500,000 (50% match) and a DCD Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program request for $250,000 (15% match). The concept plan described six courts and a 32-space parking lot; board discussion noted hesitation about building the full project if parking costs make the project unaffordable, but supervisors voted to proceed with the grant applications. The motion carried with an affirmative voice vote (recorded as 4–0).
The board also approved a sewer-engineer proposal to prepare a DCED PA small water and sewer program grant application to continue phased replacement of the Skip Back Creek interceptor—the township’s deteriorated 18-inch asbestos cement pipe. The sewer-engineer fee to prepare the application was $2,500 and the board approved moving forward.
Separately, the board approved change order #2 from NICE Construction Services for the vehicle road-improvement project to cover costs associated with a work stoppage and remediation to driveway apron elevations. The township engineer recommended the $10,379 change order and the board approved the work.
All three measures were moved, seconded and approved during the meeting with voice votes recorded by the chair.
