The Pinetop Lakeside Town Council meeting opened with brief public comments and community updates, including a business introduction from the town’s new waste-service operator and presentation of student awards by the VFW.
Joe Green introduced himself and colleagues from TBS Waste and said Blue Hills Environmental purchased TBS Waste in November. "We're kind of the new kids in town... we're community oriented," Green said, adding the company will continue local service and community cleanups and offering contact information for residents who need assistance.
Larry McCormick reported that the senior/community center is undergoing a remodel with grant-funded replacement of 6,000 square feet of flooring and that organizers have applied for liquor and bingo licenses to raise funds for the nature center and a July 25 luau/pig roast fundraiser.
VFW Post representatives presented Patriots' Pen and Voice of Democracy awards to local student winners and distributed certificates and prize checks for place finishers; first-place winners received plaques and checks.
The meeting proceeded into routine business, with the council expressing appreciation for the presentations and community involvement.
