The Silver Falls School District Board (SD 4J) appointed Kishana Noll to fill the board vacancy left by Tom Buchholtz, the board announced after a round of oral voting during its meeting.
Noll, who spoke about 30 years of experience in education — including roles as teacher, assistant principal and principal and, most recently, work as an investigator for the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission — told the board she would prioritize student-centered decisions, transparency and support for teachers. During her two-minute interview she emphasized using data to balance short-term needs with long-term planning.
Board members heard seven applicants in alphabetical order and conducted private deliberations before voting in a round where one candidate received five votes and one received one. Chair announced that Noll received the necessary majority and scheduled her swearing-in for the Oct. 27 workshop at 6:30 p.m.
Several board members said Noll's ties to Zone 7 and experience in local schools were decisive. Members also praised other candidates' qualifications, noting a competitive applicant pool that included veterans, educators, business owners and community volunteers.
The appointment fills the seat through June 2027; the board will follow its standard onboarding and public oath procedures at the scheduled workshop.
Next steps: Noll will be sworn in at the October 27 workshop and will take her seat for future regular meetings.
