Harris Township Board of Supervisors on Nov. 10 approved Ordinance 3-80 amending Chapter 10 (property maintenance and fire code) to clarify the definition of residential rental property and require a housing permit before offering a dwelling unit or rooming unit for residential occupancy.
Staff said the ordinance updates the definition of residential rental property, maintains existing exemptions and would require code inspection by the code official; the existing housing-permit waiting period (30 days) was noted. Supervisor (Speaker 14) moved to approve the ordinance; after a brief board discussion and a public-check for comment, the board held a voice vote and the chair declared the motion passed.
Staff and supervisors emphasized the public-safety framing of the change and said the permit and inspection requirement was intended to ensure health and safety standards for residential rental units.
