Navajo County approves contract amendment to connect six Show Low facilities to county broadband network

Navajo County supervisors approved a contract amendment with contractor EA Squared and an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Show Low to build six lateral fiber connections from the county—s middle-mile network to city-owned facilities.
Grant Evans of Public Works explained the change order will construct lateral lines from the middle-mile to six Show Low facilities: the airport, Frontier Park, Public Works building, City Hall, water plant and police department. The city will reimburse the county for construction costs and later negotiate a lease for small middle-mile segments necessary to make the connections contiguous. Evans said duct installation is about 95% complete and hand holes 91% complete; fiber installation remains as the final major phase and is mostly planned after hand holes and duct are complete. Because ADOT restricts lane closures in summer, construction for some segments is planned for October.
Staff recommended approval of the amendment and IGA to allow design and construction to proceed; the board moved and approved the change order and IGA unanimously.
