Proposed OSAA reclassification prompts board concern, request for delay to reassess schedules

"They gave us the proposal on December 2; final decision's December 15. We couldn't even get everybody agreeing to that," the superintendent said. The board heard that some larger districts organized hybrid leagues that reduce travel, and that several southern-Oregon schools are seeking to present a joint letter to OSAA asking for a delay.
Why it matters: Board members warned the plan could force Grants Pass to schedule many extra nonleague games to fill a season, increase travel costs, and place teams against opponents with substantially different enrollment sizes. The superintendent and athletic staff described the OSAA process (classification committee to executive board to delegate assembly) and said the classification committee recommended adjustments to how average daily membership (ADM) and other factors are counted for athletic classification.
