District health services and FACT team report shows substantial outreach, mental‑health partnerships and growing service demand

The board received a health services and FACT (Family and Community Together) team report detailing direct student supports, service counts and plans to expand partnerships and Medicaid billing.
Marie B. Wright, health services coordinator, told the board last year the FACT team identified 412 McKinney‑Vento students (students in unstable housing) and this year the team has identified 209 so far. "Last year, we identified 412 McKinney Vento students. This year so far, we have 209," Wright said. She also reported FACT assisted more than 700 students with school supplies this year and completed 145 home visits to date.
On nursing services, Wright said last year the district had 586 students with individual health plans and conducted 174 emergency trainings; this year so far there are 535 students with individual health plans and 29 delegations completed (nurses delegating medical tasks to trained staff). She described an expanding MOU network with mental‑health providers to place clinicians in schools and the exploration of telehealth options to manage wait lists and increase access.
Wright said the district has applied for multiple grants (seven pending) potentially totaling about $130,000 to support FACT and nursing services. She described work with the business office and the local ESD to prepare for Medicaid billing to capture eligible reimbursements, noting the NPI application and state processes are in progress.
Why it matters: FACT and school nurses are frontline supports for students experiencing housing instability, health needs and attendance challenges; the district’s efforts to expand clinician partnerships and billing could increase service capacity and sustainability.
