Ferguson Township proclaims September as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month

Ferguson Township adopted a proclamation at its Aug. 19 Board of Supervisors meeting declaring September 2025 as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month and Sept. 10 as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Day.
Marissa Visieri, president and founder of the Janamarie Foundation and chair of the Center County Suicide Prevention Task Force, thanked the board for the proclamation and urged community participation. "Suicide prevention month reminds us that none of us are alone and that together we can build resilience and offer hope," Visieri said, and invited residents to trainings and a remembrance event on Sept. 10 at the Bullsboro Fire Hall.
Visieri highlighted free local trainings such as QPR (question, persuade, refer) and other counseling resources, and described a Sept. 2 suicide-prevention rally at the Bellefonte courthouse stairs as part of the month’s activities. Board members praised Visieri and the Janamarie Foundation for ongoing work in the community.
The board approved the proclamation by voice vote after a motion to adopt was moved and seconded; supervisors also suggested linking local resource phone numbers and training information on the township website to increase access to support services.
