Ferguson supervisors repeal streetlight assessments, move revenue into general fund

The Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Dec. 2 to enact an ordinance repealing Chapter 21 Part 4 sections related to streetlight assessments for installation, operation and collection.
Board members and residents discussed whether repealing the dedicated assessment would require a tax increase. Vice Chair Omari Patterson said the intent is to move the function into a flat general-millage approach to simplify administration and reduce staff time spent identifying properties close to streetlights. After a public hearing, Patterson moved to enact the draft ordinance repeal and Supervisor Strickland seconded. The manager called the roll and the motion carried unanimously.
Supervisor Heller said the township likely has funds in reserve to avoid an immediate tax increase, and that further budget discussion would follow during the budget agenda item.
The change means that revenues for streetlights will be collected as part of general revenues rather than by a separate assessment; the board said it would provide details about how funds will be budgeted and reported in future materials.
