One board member noted a $500/month stipend would amount to roughly 0.028% of the district budget in the example they reviewed.
The board also discussed optics and technical concerns, including how stipends might affect eligibility for other benefits if pay cycles were changed (a payroll discussion raised concerns about disability or means‑tested benefits). Members agreed the policy should be optional and that unused funds could be handled through the district budget process or repurposed via board decision.
Final action: Liz Goodrich moved an amended motion specifying the stipend policy would begin with newly elected board members in 2027; Ashley Proctor seconded. The amended motion passed 4‑1 (nay: Carrie Lopez).
